Lesser Town is one of the original fours towns which monarchs residing at Prague Castle tried to bring together in one territorial unit – the city of Prague. They were finally successful in 1784 during the reign of Emperor Joseph II. – almost one thousand years after the place had been inhabited.

You may also note that the Czech president has his office at the castle.

If you are interested in politics, you can also visit other seats of official institutions on specific days of the year. The Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic has its seat in three palaces in Sněmovní street. The Senate meets in the Wallenstein Palace, and the seat of the Government is located in Straka Academy at the riverbank.

If you are tired from walking and looking at all the architecture and parks, you can relax in many of the Lesser Town cellars. Most of them offer the famous Pilsner beer and offer traditional Czech meals.
